I have been asked if I wanted to contribute an ACEO for a little project that collects cards that will be reprinted and sold in order to raise awareness for the climate change and endangered animal species.

In Brazil alone more than a dozen species of monkeys are endangered, because of the loss of their living space; among them various kinds of tamarins, spidermonkeys and several sub species of the capuchin monkeys.

So I chose a spidermonkey for my card. It might not be recognizable due to the small size of the card, but the reflection in his eyes shows a burnt down forest (or at least is meant to show the same). I tried to pick up the topic without too much kitch and cliche, so I left out the tears. ;p

What a powerful piece. It's an interesting and well-executed concept, made particularly striking by the fine details of the spidermonkey's face. The pink tint of the lips, the skin between the eyes, and flow of the fur are a few of the many details that give this a strong sense of realism.

The reflection in the eye is somewhat hard to see, but the size has understandable constraints. It might have added some realism to place a pupil and iris faintly in the eye as well, but with the near photo-realism of the rest, the eyes stand out strikingly.

All around, a very nice piece for something in such a limiting size.

Wow, what a neat reflection! Excellently done, the curvature is perfect, and though it's so small, you can still totally see what the scene is supposed to be.
The way you made the reflection seem to take over the whole eye really gives this spidermonkey a wiser feel.

And I'm impressed with the colour range within the fur. Most people don't throw in other colours and as a result they get flat looking, unrealistic fur.

Du malst Reflektionen in Augen. Soweit OK. Nicht, dass ich das auf großformatigen Bildern bisher allzuoft gesehen hätte - aber auf einer ACEO-Karte?! Unwerfend. Bloodi, Du bist irre.

Very well done. Though the eyes look like liquid metal Mercury which gives it that eery look. Love how you did it though. Whats this group and is there time to submit our own works to them?
