The old Clans
There have been 25 Clans in the very beginning of the history of the Bloodhounds.
Each had an own typical symbol on the forehead and each had significant characteristic features and skills.
Today most Hounds have mixed up so that the old definitions won’t always fit today, but some of them will still work.

I am considering Zeta, Epsilon, Tau or Ypsilon. Are any of these alreay "taken?" (I know you said there can be hundreds of these, but just for the fun of making a character... ;3)
And lastly, do I even have permission from you? o.o;
I know that these signs aren't the be-all end-all to a Blood Hound, but I'd like to know a little more about how they affect a Blood Hound's actions. For example, how would each sign deal with a problem?
Like, say you were walking down the road, and you met an angry, drunken warrior who challenges you to a duel to the death. I assume a Gamma might engage the warrior, and just win. A Chi might trick the warrior out of fighting, a Beta might calm him down... What would everyone else do?
And the sign is also only a... how to say that... a guideline how a Hound -could- behave, but they are individuals after all.
But if you want to I can try to sum it up a bit:
Alpha
Would most likely feel insulted and either accept and win (or lose), but not kill the opponent, because he might still become a worthy member of a pack... if he stops drinking.
Beta
Will try to talk himself out of it, calm his opponent down or ask for help. If everything fails he will defend himself.
Gamma
You figured it out already.
Delta
Will most likely be able to talk himself out of the situation.
Epsilon
He will find a way to lure the oponent to a place where too many other people are who could interefere or help, even if it's only through "running away". He will in any case inform others about the situation, so that others won't fall into it as well.
Zeta
Depending on the mood he will ignore the threat. If the oponent still wants to fight he will die before he realizes that the Zeta turned aoround.
Eta
Will most likely never have to face a situation like this, as they are feared as lawyers and executors. Even a drunken Hound will realize that.
Theta, Kappa, Omikorn, Pi, Tau, Phi and Omega
Will try to solve the situation otherwise, but if it comes to a fight, he will defend himself, trying not to kill the aggressor.
Jota, Lambda, My, Ny and Chi
Will try to calm the opponent, but if it comes to a fight, they will either have to run away, find help or will die.
Xi
Will be able to solve the situation with the use of magic.
Rho
Will most likely be able to create a plan in which nobody gets harmed and everybody ends safe.
Ypsilon
Will react in a way completely unexpected and maybe irrational. I have actually no clue. Everything could happen. ^-^
Psi
A highliy skilled Psi can confuse his opponent for long enough to either get help or disarm him.
Well... I hope this answers your question a bit. :>

And the bar tender says to Renee Descartes, "Another beer?" And Descartes says, "I think not," and disappears.
So if two Gammas made and get a puppy, the chance is high the puppy will be a Gamma as well. Depending though on how the familiy tree looks, the puppy could also get any sign of the last two or three generations.
Take Bloodi for example. He is an Omega, but his brother is an Alpha, even though they have the same parents their signs differ. Not mainly because they had different characters from birth on, but because of genetic reasons. Their parents have got two different signs and so have most of their ancestors.
I guess you're getting the idea by now. ^-^
